Code Geass (“In future Japan guns sound like clogged toilets.”)
August 21, 2009
No no, I’m not attacking Code Geass’s mechs. Mechs cannot be challenged by anything, they’re just too awesome.
This is about Code Geass’s only human fire arm, their wimpy pistol. This is a gun that when fired at point blank range cannot even penetrate a pocket watch (In the first episode when Suzaku is shot). And yes, This gun sounds like a clogged toilet when fired.
Golgo 13 (Don’t worry, if you’re 800 metres away you’re safe!)
August 21, 2009
Watch out! The greatest assasin in the world has been tasked to kill you, what do you do? Simple, get 800 metres away. Golgo 13’s weapon of choice is a M16A2. Though it has been aparently modified, all M16 variants hold a max sniping range of around 800 meters. Most proper sniper rifles can hit targets accurately from over 1000 meters away.
The M16A2 is no doubt a great rifle, but as a sniping weapon it is mediocre at best.
Appleseed Ex Machina! We love you John Woo, you didn’t direct the film but your awesomeness just leeks into the whole movie! So why do guns suck in the future?
Right at the beginning of the film inside the church a bioroid with a massive chain gun takes on Deunan. She runs around and shoots him, the bullets just bounce off. Fair, machines can be bullet proof. So she gives up the gun, runs up to him and kills him with a knife. WTF! If bullets don’t work, knife ’em. Sorry that just doesn’t work for me. If you can stab a guy to death, you should definitely be able to shoot him to death.
Later in the film Deunan is combating the deranged construction worker who is in a construction robot. She has to go through all this trouble just to hit the kill switch on the back to turn the machine off. Dude! We’ve got freaking On Star, some guy not even in your city can remotely turn your car off with a few clicks on a keyboard. I can open a car door from across the street with a key fob. Does the future not deem a giant robot to be dangerous enough to warrant a remote kill switch?!
I’m going to the On Star office to request they extend their service to Giant robots.
Escaflowne Movie (A world without G forces)
August 21, 2009
Recently I enjoyed watching Escaflowne the movie, but one part bugged me to no end.
Near the end of the movie before the big fight sequence. Soldiers are dropped in big crates from the battleships above the city right on top of and around the buildings. They then march out of the crates in perfect rythm without any sign of motion sickness. A drop that far would break their legs, desembowle them, or simply cause internal bleading. Do G forces not exist?
I’m going to find a tall building crawl into a tight metal crate and try to be completely still. Sue them for me.
Hellsing (the series that never runs out of ammo)
August 20, 2009
Hellsing is a vampire based franchise, this alone excuses almost all of the unrealistic events. Except for one, yes your thinking it, guns that don’t run out of amunition.
Stop! Stop! Stop! The guns are not magical, or enchanted, they are built by a human and work and operate like regular human weapons. They even need to be reloaded… Most of the time.
Alucard has two handguns one called Casull and the other is Jackal. They barely need to be reloaded… ever.
The Casull is based upon the Colt 1911 or any other variation of this legendary gun. The Colt 1911 in .45 ACP holds 7 bullets. The Casull uses .454 ammunition. The Casull has a single stack magazine, thus if anything it should hold less bullets than a regular 1911. Alucard sprays bullets from this thing like it’s a automatic machine gun. He does this too using the Jackal, which also has a single stack magazine, though uses custom 13mm rounds.
One more! Luke Valentine uses cut down M1 garands an M1 garand can only hold 10 bullets in its magazine. Luke Valentine fires huge amouts of bullets from both of his M1s.
This doesn’t at all detract from the awesomeness that is Hellsing, enjoy the never ending walls of bullets.
Initial D(efense)
August 19, 2009
I’ve heard from all kinds of people who have read or watched Initial D the same complaint over and over and over again. If you haven’t guessed it’s Takumi and Bunta’s use of the gutter run on Mt.Akina. People endlessly criticize franchise stating that this technique is completely unrealistic.
It isn’t, WRC drivers and other rally drivers do this all the time, hooking the inside of their wheels around the inside of the road. However, their tires are specially designed as to not shred and pop upon the large amounts of friction generated by such a technique.
Eden of the East
August 19, 2009
Eden of the East… anyone watch this yet? If you have you’re probably thinking that i’ve lost my mind, that getting a cell phone loaded with money is definitely ridiculous. But hear me out.
When Saki and Akira are in Washington D.C. everyone else speaks English, something that is rarely done in anime. Though this does not make sense of the fact that while both Saki and Akira speak Japanese they are understood perfectly.
In a latter episode in which Saki is rushing off to the hotel to try to rescue Ohsugi when she gets out of the car the lights inside immediately turn on. In no way significant to anything, but a very nice touch.
All cars and expecially Akiras moped handle and accelerate accurately. They also posses realistic amounts of mass. A good example is in the first episode, the truck that almost runs a naked Akira over, as the man in side accelerates away, the truck actually squats under acceleration.
There are more, but hopefully by now you’ve gotten my point.
Post 86 (because starting with the number one is overrated)
August 19, 2009
If you haven’t read the about section (which you should have.) this blog is about physical inconsistencies occuring in manga and anime.
This means, for example guns that don’t run out of bullets, objects that don’t posses any weight, and cars that seemingly drive on rails.
Stay tuned, and don’t change the channel, turn the page, halt your torrent, or eject your DVD.
Gooday Samaritans!

I (Nobathroomneeded) have arrived! That is all… For now.
